Spring is an important time to inspect and maintain your property for optimal performance. Use the following list to help you inspect for the proper function and safety of your home.
Interior:
Inspect operation of windows and doors
Check below window & door that flashing intact
Look for signs of leaks at window and door sills
Repair broken, cracked glass
Check smoke and CO alarms
Inspect your fire extinguisher(s)
Clean dryer vents and screens
Check exhaust ducts are clear
Clean exhaust fan outlets and screens
Clean dehumidifier coils, check operation
Clean air conditioning coils, drain pans prepping system ready for summer; consider having it serviced.
Inspect, and possibly change out HVAC filters
Clean range hood filters
Check bath and kitchen fans operation
Look for peeling paint
Exterior:
Check the exterior drainage/downspouts and water flowing away from building.
Clean out gutters and ensure proper discharge.
Repair/replace damaged window screens.
Clear dead plants/shrubs from the house.
Check trees for interference with electric lines.
Inspect roofing for damage, leaks, etc.
Proper operation of garage door
Check for signs of water damage
Check for signs of rodents, bats, roaches, termites
Shingles in good condition
Check chimney, valley, plumbing, vents, and skylight flashing
Check attic for signs of roof leaks
Look for signs of leaks where deck attaches to house
